Learn The Perl Programming Language

Perl programming is a specific type of dynamic programming language. Created by Larry Wall, the Perl programming language was first released in 1987. Perl programming borrows its features from a variety of many other languages, including C, shell scripting (sh), AWK, Sed, and Lisp.

The name "Perl" used to describe this language was derived from the phrase "Parable of the Pearl," which is from the Gospel of Matthew. This phrase was chosen because Wall wanted to give the Perl programming language a short name that had positive connotations. Wall did also consider naming the Perl programming language after his wife, Gloria, but that never did happen.

Wall began working on the Perl programming language in 1987 while working as a programmer at Unisys. He subsequently released version 1.0 to the comp.sources.misc newsgroup on December 18, 1987. The language expanded quite rapidly over the next few years.

Perl 2, which is another type of Perl programming language, was released in 1988. This new version of the Perl programming language featured a better regular expression engine of Perl programming. Perl 3, which was released in 1989, added support for binary data streams. By the time Wall designed Perl 5, which occurred on October 26, 1995 and through the Comprehensive Perl Archive Network (CPAN), it carried over 11,000 modules by over 5,000 authors.

The Perl programming language is a general-purpose type language that was originally developed for text manipulation. Today, it is used for a wide variety of tasks, including system administration, web development, network programming, GUI development, and much more. The language of Perl programming is intended to be extremely practical (easy to use, efficient, and complete) rather than beautiful (tiny-elegant, and minimal). The major features of Perl programming include its support for multiple programming paradigms (procedural, object-oriented, and functional styles), automatic memory management, built-in support for text processing, and a very large collection of third-party modules.
