Information on a Computer Science Course

ComputerBefore you enroll in a computer science course, you need to make certain the course is something you need for your degree and that you have fulfilled all of the prerequisite courses first. It may seem easy enough to take a particular course because you want to be able to meet the requirements for full-time enrollment (12-14 credit hours), but if the computer science course that is available for a given semester has a prerequisite, you are destined for failure if you have not completed that course. Do not make the mistake of thinking you are smarter than those who designed the requirements for each computer science course.

One of the reasons a college may have for requiring a computer science course to be taken prior to another one is that the material is comprehensive, meaning that you need the material in one course in order to pass the other course. The concepts are taught in the earlier computer science course, and you need that material in order to apply the principles in the next course. Many college courses require completion of other courses first, and if you want to succeed in each computer science course, you have to be aware of the sequence of those courses.

Be careful when you select each computer science course that you have met the preliminary requirements. You will only hurt yourself if you attempt to take a computer science course that has a prerequisite before you take the earlier course. Attempting to push forward at a pace faster than necessary will cause frustration, and frustration leads to inability to focus, and thus failure. Pursue only those courses for which you have met the preliminary requirements in order to have the highest potential for success. Changing the order in which you take a computer science course will not allow you to receive your degree any sooner—in fact, it may even lengthen the time because you will possibly fail the compute science course you attempted to take without fulfilling the preliminary requirements.
