CCNA courses are designed to give students an apprenticeship level understanding and competency with Cisco technology and software. A successful candidate will be able to perform many networking tasks and will have skills which are highly desirable in industry and in private sectors. CCNA courses are often taught over the course of one academic year in colleges and universities. There are also bootcamps that provide training in as little as a week or two.
Cisco approved CCNA courses are taught using a copyrighted curriculum by Cisco trained instructors. Certification is completed only after passing a single test or a pair of tests. The resulting certificate is valid for three years before recertification is necessary, or additional Cisco systems certification is obtained. Here is a brief summary of some CCNA courses that lead to certification.
CCNA courses start with the basics. In the first stage of training students are introduced to terminology and protocols. This would include an introduction to WAN, LAN and dialup. Your training would also include networking basics such as an introduction to routers, switches, cables and the software necessary to set up modest networks. Another area that will be emphasized are safety codes and industry regulations. The second section of the training would include CCNA courses that build on the basics learned in the first module such as configuring routers and managing router files. This section may also include troubleshooting. CCNA courses at this stage will also refine software management.
As the CCNA courses progress to the third stage, students will learn more about switches and advanced IP. Students will be expected to have an understanding of how LAN and Ethernet switching. The fourth stage of training gets into advanced networking and WAN. Students will learn Network address translation, Point to Point protocol (PPP) and Frame Relay to name just a few CCNA courses taught at this level.
